Pediatric Care

With young patients, experience is invaluable in providing successful pediatric vision treatment.

Unparalleled Pediatric Vision Care

Our experienced doctors and staff understand the specific and unique challenges that come with providing effective eye care to infants, toddlers, and children. Young children lack the verbal skills to communicate their vision issues, so experience in helping these young patients feel safe and comfortable while identifying their specific vision challenges is invaluable. Dr. Nichols understands this process completely on a personal level. Her interest in pediatric vision care began when she discovered her 17 month old son needed corrective lenses. After he was fitted with corrective lenses, she recognized marked improvement in both his motor and social skills. She brings this intimate, personal knowledge, understanding, and experience to all her pediatric patients and she also works with occupational therapists to provide personalized vision assessments and care that goes beyond simply prescribing glasses and contact lenses.

InfantSEE Program

Because of her experience with her infant son’s vision needs and working in the field of pediatric vision care, Dr. Nichols is a strong advocate for the American Optometric Association’s InfantSEE Program which provides no-cost vision exams to infants 6 to 12 months of age. It’s designed to ensure that eye and vision care becomes an integral part of infant wellness care to improve a child’s quality of life. While many parents believe that a vision screening is enough, a recent study funded by the National Eye Institute found that even the most sophisticated vision screening tools, administered by the most highly-trained vision screeners will miss ONE-THIRD of children with an eye or vision disorder.

Myopia Care

We also offer our patients a more modern approach to treating myopia using Ortho K. Find out if you can benefit from the latest, innovative treatment to correct nearsightedness.
